A real inward investment boost came to North West England with the 08 February 2010 announcement from NWDA, The Northwest Regional Development Agency, of a GBP290,000 Grant for Business Investment, GBI, awarded to a major European manufacturer to establish a UK base in Blackburn, creating 37 new jobs. Gosselin is Europe’s largest manufacturer of laboratory consumables, including Petri-dishes, bottles and other lab receptacles. The French company currently holds a 50% market share of the European Petri-dish market, making the UK an ideal location from which to extend market share within Northern Europe. This leader on the European market innovates permanently: new logo, new visual identity, a R&D unit.

The GBP290,000 GBI will bring GBP1.9 million of inward investment to the region within the Biomedical Sector. GBI is part of ‘Solutions for Business’, the UK Government\'s package of publicly funded business support designed to help companies start and grow. It is also one of a number of actions being taken by NWDA to meet the needs of businesses during these challenging times in response to the current economic downturn.
