Thriving Osborne Engineering Limited celebrated its expansion as it continues to experience growing global customer demand for its quality components. The company, which currently employs more than 125 staff, is creating up to 45 new jobs manufacturing bespoke bearings and gas turbine components for clients in the oil and gas, wind power and power generation industries. One North East Chairman Paul Callaghan visited the company on 14 October 2010 to see the new extension of its facility at North Nelson Industrial Estate in Cramlington, which has helped to increase its CNC machining and manufacturing capabilities and expanding its technical training facilities.

The expansion project was supported by a GBP350,000 Grant for Business Investment (GBI) from One North East, which is also assisting in the creation of the new roles including CNC machinists, design engineers and inspection and support staff. Extending the premises is also preventing valuable work from being lost to competitors in Europe and freeing up more space to bolster other services including a design and engineering department, dedicated repair cell and state-of-the-art training facility.

Osborne Engineering Limited (OEL) Group Managing Director Shukri Benfaied said: “This expansion allows us to continue our successful growth utilizing the skills and experience available in the North East to produce high quality gas turbine products for a global customer base. We are grateful for the continued support of One North East for this project and indeed over the past few years.”

One North East Chairman, Paul Callaghan, said: “I am delighted to see such an innovative business going from strength to strength, investing in the North East, creating new job opportunities and cementing its place in the local economy. Osborne Engineering Limited is flying the flag for our region’s manufacturing industry and we wish the company and all its staff the very best for the future.”

The Grant for Business Investment is part of Solutions for Business, the Government’s package of publicly funded support products offering help to companies to start, grow and succeed. Solutions for Business makes it easier for companies to get the advice and assistance that they need.
