Published: Thursday, 16 Dec, 2010

The London Development Agency has started work to transform Three Mills Green. This is a central part of the regeneration of the Lower Lea Valley and part of the Mayor of London Great Outdoors programme, an initiative to rejuvenate parks, squares and roads in the capital ahead of and beyond the 2012 Games. Diggers have now moved in on the development, which is the first phase of the award winning Lea River Park project and part of the London Development Agency aim to ensure all Londoners benefit from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Diggers have now moved in on the development, which is the first phase of the award winning Lea River Park project and part of the London Development Agency aim to ensure all Londoners benefit from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This investment and regeneration in and around the Olympic Fringe is transforming disused public spaces into thriving places to live, work and play.

Launching the project on 13 December 2010, the Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: "For too long this corner of London has been neglected. It's fantastic that Three Mills Green is going to have new life breathed into it through this regeneration. When the world descends on London in 2012, I want to be able to show off the absolute best that this great city has to offer, and our parks, rivers and public squares are an essential part of that plan. We will be sharing the capital's public places with visitors from all over the globe so I am delighted to hear work is ready to begin at Three Mills Green to transform it into a greener, brighter and friendlier park."

Developed by Design for London and the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, the revitalisation of Three Mills Green is due for completion in Spring 2011. It includes a high quality events area, a sculpted viewing terrace, ping pong tables and a petanque court. The project is being led by Lee Valley Regional Park Authority and Design for London, with funding from the London Development Agency and the Homes and Communities Agency through the London Thames Gateway Parklands and Olympic Fringe Delivery Strategy.
