Intelligent Energy, the Loughborough based business which specialises in the development and application of clean power systems, completed its move into new premises in Loughborough on 02 August 2010. The business, which was previously based at the Innovation Centre on the Loughborough University campus, relocated to nearby premises at Holywell Park, with the support of East Midlands Development Agency (emda).
The primary activity of Intelligent Energy, which employs over 100 staff, is the development and commercialisation of a range of clean power platforms based on its proprietary fuel cell technology. The company's products are used for various applications within its four key markets - aerospace and defence; distributed generation and portable power; oil and gas and motive. The move to Holywell Park will enable the company to continue its growth and expand its business operations in producing bespoke clean fuel cell power systems for its blue chip clients, which include Boeing, Suzuki, Scottish & Southern Energy and Airbus.
Intelligent Energy received a Grant for Business Investment (GBI) of GBP800,000 from East Midlands Development Agency (emda) last year, to support the equipping of their new premises. The 3,373 sq.m unit will be installed with a low volume production line incorporating robotic technology, engineering test rigs and measurement equipment, IT and communications systems. The additional capacity will enable the company to meet the demand for its technologies by global customers. The total cost of the move is over GBP8.5m and it is expected to create approximately 130 full time equivalent jobs across the business over time, with more than 90% of these being at graduate level.
